First Union Institutional Trust Acts as Securities Lending Agent for Three Hartford Life Funds

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - First Union Institutional Trust Services, a division of Wachovia Corporation, and The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc., announced today that First Union will act as securities lending agent for three funds sub-advised by Wellington Management Company LLP. The funds include: The Hartford Smallcap Growth, The Hartford Advisors, and Hartford Smallcap Growth HLS.

First Union/Wachovia has a strong history with The Hartford, providing the company with various financial services such as treasury services; capital solutions, including equity and debt issuance; and corporate lending. In addition, First Union/Wachovia has had a longstanding distribution relationship with The Hartford as one of the largest sellers of The Hartford's variable annuities.

"First Union has had an alliance with The Hartford for many years," said George Jay, assistant vice president of Hartford Life. "We are happy to be able to expand this relationship into the securities lending business."

"This securities lending agreement will allow The Hartford to enhance the yield on the funds assets. Principe, serves all types of institutional clients, targeting niche markets including domestic and international correspondent banks, healthcare, government/municipal, insurance, investment advisors and mutual funds. Institutional Trust Services is part of the Corporate and Institutional Trust group within the Capital Management Group of Wachovia Corporation.
