First Union Securities Co-leads Follow-on Equity Offering for American Capital Strategies

CHARLOTTE, NC -- First Union Securities today announced that it has co-led a $115 million equity offering for American Capital Strategies (NASDAQ:ACAS), a publicly traded buyout and mezzanine fund based in Bethesda, MD. The offering of 4.5 million shares of common stock was priced at $25.50 per share. First Union Securities co-led the offering with Solomon Smith Barney.

American Capital is a regulated investment company (“RIC”) with a market capitalization of $848.8 million. The company serves as an equity partner in management and employee buyouts, invests in debt and equity of middle market companies alongside leading private equity firms, and directly invests in private and small public companies.

“We are pleased to have co-led this transaction for American Capital,” said Robert Grunewald, managing director of the Financial Services Investment Banking Group.  “American Capital’s performance and recent stock appreciation reflects the overall strength of the RIC sector. RICs are an attractive investment not only for their high dividend yield, but also due to their capital appreciation. In addition, RICs are prospering in today’s market because they cater to the growing financing needs of today’s middle-market companies.”
