Political involvement plays a key role in the development of strong communities. National and state legislation directly affects our lives. The financial services industry is one of the most highly regulated industries in the nation. Legislation can have a profound effect on our policies and our operations. Wachovia’s Government Relations group fosters positive government partnerships and supports progressive legislation on issues of importance to our company, customers, communities, and employees. Government Relations accomplishes these goals through multiple disciplines, each with a specific focus. Disciplines include:

• SpeakOut Wachovia!—Encourages active volunteer employee involvement in the political and electoral process.
• Wachovia Employees Good Government Funds—Enables eligible employees to voluntarily provide financial support of candidates for an elected office.
• Issues Management—Researches current and emerging legislative issues that affect Wachovia and the financial services industry and helps formulate our policy stance.
• Federal Government Relations—Builds strong relationships with federal elected officials for the development of sound federal legislation.
• State Government Relations—Builds strong relationships with state elected officials for the development of sound state legislation.
