MAIL FRAUD ALERT

Wachovia has become aware that someone or a group of individuals are circulating fraudulent correspondence allegedly issued by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC). This correspondence is a hoax.

OCC Warns of Fraudulent Mail—August 2, 2007
In the correspondence, victims are asked to pay approximately $25,000 in order to obtain legal documents. The letter also explains that an individual's money will be held until the documents are produced. See OCC site for sample correspondence.

Any documents claiming that the OCC is involved in holding any funds for the benefit of any individual or entity are fraudulent. The OCC does not participate in the transfer of funds for, or on behalf of, individuals, business enterprises, or governmental entities.

Report and Resolve This Fraud
Consumers who receive a counterfeit item and associated material should file complaints with the following agencies, as appropriate:
