The amount you can borrow depends on your year in school, your dependency status, and your level of financial need.
Stafford Loans come in two forms: subsidized and unsubsidized. Awarded on the basis of need and dependency status, subsidized loans accrue no interest while you’re in school or during the grace period prior to repayment.
The Unsubsidized Stafford Loan is more widely available, but with this loan type, you’re responsible for all of the interest that accrues prior to repayment. You will have the option to make interest payments while you’re in school.
Depending on your level of need and dependency status, you may be eligible for subsidized loans, unsubsidized loans, or both. Your financial aid office will determine your eligibility for these loan types.
